Lauren Cook is the leader of the Backroads tour group, she documented her trip in Vietnam through an article about coffee imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity.
"Sitting on an old wooden chair, I chose the best spot in the restaurant. I was surrounded by young and old Vietnamese, and together we watched life go on. While the kids enjoyed themselves. freedom after school, hundreds of motorbikes like fish gathered around the food feeder, sipping what everyone else was enjoying, I felt exactly what I had imagined.
This is how you drink coffee in Vietnam.
Just a small cup of coffee here. You don't take away. Sit and sip.
For me, this is a bit difficult. I rarely stay long. It would feel like something was wrong if I hadn't moved the bicycles while preparing a picnic. But in Vietnam I had to totally think, “Lauren, sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee.”
Coffee in Vietnam is equally rich. Mornings and noons, on the stone sidewalks and in the old cafes, old men sit on small stools sipping energetic cups of “coffee with ice,” or, as they call it, milk coffee. kick, while playing chess.
During our trip to Vietnam, we often explain Vietnamese coffee with a photo. A teaspoon of powder is put into an aluminum filter, a small can with many tiny holes in the bottom. The filter is placed on a glass containing condensed milk. Pour boiling water into the filter and a few minutes later you will see coffee droplets slowly flowing into the milk. After mixing, use a small spoon to stir well before adding ice. And enjoy! You will be addicted by iced milk coffee.
I love both the romance in the old Vietnamese cafes, with the plastic chairs and the old men playing chess, I am completely captivated by the poetry that permeates the modern Vietnamese culture and culture. their coffee.
I believe this is what makes Vietnam one of the most exciting countries to visit: a social face steeped in centuries of history, culture and pride.
If you want to get away from your desks, open a book or sit and watch what happens on the street, it's best to grab a coffee on any trip to Vietnam. The hotels on each of our trips elegantly serve iced milk coffee and every place we pass introduces this quintessential drink. And wherever you drink coffee, remind yourself – as I usually do – you are in Vietnam. Sip slowly."
