Vietnamese people are poisoning each other through chemicals impregnated in daily food, especially additives in coffee.
The amount of manganese in the dry battery core absorbed into the body causes memory impairment and affects the motor nervous system.
On April 16, 2018, the Environmental Police Department of Dak Nong Province Police cooperated with the Inspector of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province to catch the agro-business processing facility of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan. , village 13, Dak Wer commune, Dak Lap district is mixing impurities into coffee.
At the scene, functional forces discovered that there were dozens of tons of dirty coffee with soil and stones prepared in the warehouse. In which, up to 12 tons of coffee has been dyed black by the Eagle battery; 2 pots containing 35 kg of crushed batteries, 1 bucket containing the battery core, 1 bucket containing black water and a battery cover with a weight of 10 kg.... used to dye coffee black.
Initially, the owner of the establishment confessed his behavior to the agents to buy waste coffee, coffee shell waste, coffee scraps ... then bought the batteries to flatten, use the battery core to mix with water and then dyed into coffee, packaged and sold in the market.
MSc Hoang Trong Phu, lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), said that in the process of creating a dry battery like the Eagle battery, the manufacturer must use manganese compounds. Dioxide (MngO2), the dark brown color surrounds a graphite core that is conductive to act as an electrolyte to release electricity for the battery core. Cooking the battery core will more or less cause the amount of manganese dioxide to enter the user's body, adversely affecting the nervous system. To test how harmful manganese dioxide levels are to the health of users, it is necessary to test coffee samples.
Effects on the nervous system
The Ministry of Health has made many recommendations about the harmful effects of manganese on human health and people who are regularly exposed to manganese.
According to the Ministry of Health, manganese is one of the basic trace elements of life, playing many important roles in the body such as affecting cellular respiration, bone development, glucose metabolism and functioning. Although it does not cause direct effects on human health, exposure to, eating, and using water contaminated with manganese for a long time also has bad consequences, especially especially for the nervous system.
Manganese is present in water as a dissolved ion (Mn2+). If the concentration is less than 0.1mg/liter, manganese is beneficial for health. However, if the manganese content is high from 1-5mg / liter, it will cause many effects on some internal organs of the body.
Manganese is especially harmful to children because children's bodies easily absorb a lot of manganese while excreting very little. That leads to the accumulation of manganese in the child's body, which has serious consequences. Therefore, health experts recommend that pregnant women and children absolutely avoid contact and use of water contaminated with manganese.
In addition, people who are regularly exposed to manganese are prone to neurological symptoms, often initially headache, weakness, poor sleep, balance disorder, awkward gait, embarrassment. In the advanced stage of the disease, there will be symptoms similar to Parkinson's syndrome, mild hand tremor can still work, but then severe tremor, more severe disease, can not work and self-service.
