When you get SCA certifications such as: Barista Skill, Sensory Skill, Roasting Skill, ... or more advanced, AST (Authorised SCA Trainer), you will be much easier to "advance" at work.
SCA is considered a "tycoon" in the specialty coffee industry for the following reasons:
Is a combination of 2 associations: Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE). Incorporated in 2017, SCA is a huge network of coffee lovers from over 130 countries around the world.
As a non-profit organization, SCA represents thousands of professionals from every position in the coffee industry value chain, from farmers to baristas, roasters... SCA is built on the ground up. an open and knowledge-sharing platform to build an industry that is fair, sustainable, and beneficial for all. This organization connects the coffee industry around the world, improves coffee quality and gives coffee industry players a global voice.
To do that, SCA builds an education system that provides coffee certificates (Coffee Diploma System) through a network of Certified SCA Trainers (AST). This organization sets and maintains standards and conducts in-depth research for the coffee industry.
Besides, SCA is also the organizer of major events and competitions in the coffee community. Among them are the events within the annual World of Coffee framework including the International Coffee Conference and Exhibition, the World Barista Championship, the World Latte Art Championship. In particular, Cubes Asia will exclusively sponsor Barista in Hanoi area with SCA scholarships with:
Barista Skill class: 5 scholarships worth 209 EUR each, equivalent to 5,500,000 VND;
Sensory Skill class: 9 scholarships worth 400 EUR each, equivalent to 10,500,000 VND.
The trainer for both sessions above is Mr. Lauro Fioretti – 24 years of experience in the coffee industry; Judge of WBC 2006; Coaches are licensed by SCAE with most modules.
Besides, Mr. Lauro is also a creative member of the SCAE association for Barista Skills; SCAE Research Committee, WCE Guidelines Development Committee and Q-Grader.
You only need to pay the participation fee:
250,000 VND for Cubes Asia to prepare materials/tools and everything to organize the lesson;
VND 1,600,000 for SCA to issue certificates by class (optional)
